How can I stop Internet slander against me?

By IBLS Editor (index)

Someone posted a slandering comment about me on craigslist. Another website pulled the information and now has it on there page. When you google my name these horrible remarks and slanderous comments are in full view and appear for the world to see. This is causing and creating problems for me in all areas of my life. Anyone who googles my name will see this. I tried to contact the person who owns the website to ask him to take it off but he has ignored me. What are my rights? Do I need to file a lawsuit against the web owner if he does not remove the content? How may I terminate the content otherwise?
