Dip Added To HVP Recall

By Dan Flynn and Suzanna Schreck

ADVERTISEMENTS
Brockton MA-based Concord Foods Inc Friday joined the nationwide recall of products made with hydrolyzed vegetable protein made by Basic Food Flavors.

The hydrolyzed vegetable protein may be contaminated with Salmonella. Concord added its 1.5 oz. Home-style Vegetable Dip Seasoning with a Best Buy date of 07/27/12. (UPC 041409002066)

The product is contained in foil packets and sold in the produce section of supermarkets.  The best buy date is embossed on the left edge of the panel.

Nevada-based Basic Food Flavors has been contacting its customers about the Salmonella problem for the last week.  U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials say hydrolyzed vegetable protein is used in thousands in products.

FDA is requiring that any products containing hydrolyzed vegetable protein from Basic Food Flavors be recalled unless it has been put through a "kill stop" that would kill the bacteria.

No illnesses have yet been associated with the recall of the Concord dip or any product containing hydrolyzed vegetable protein from Basic Food Flavors.

Consumers with products carrying this date code should destroy or return them to the store for a full refund.

Consumers with questions should contact Concord Foods at 1-800-924-5775 (Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. EST).
