The UN Human Rights Council, apparently intent on showing how little they understand about human rights, has endorsed the document put out by the Organization of the Islamic Conference calling for laws prohibiting the expression of "racist and xenophobic ideas" and any expression that might constitute "religious defamation." The vote was 21-10, with the European Union and Canada, neither one exactly the strongest defenders of free speech in some areas, voting against the resolution.
EU countries, including France, Germany and Britain, voted against. Previously EU diplomats had said they wanted to stop the growing worldwide trend of using religious anti-defamation laws to limit free speech.Read the rest of this post... | Read the comments on this post...
