: BoardBuzz: NSBA's Daily WeblogOverdue in Oklahoma
BoardBuzz had a chuckle this morning while reading an article from USA Today that reports of an overdue library book being returned to Holland High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Why so funny, you might ask? The book was checked out in 1947! Sixty-one years ago a woman named Martha McCabe wound up with New Word Analysis: Or School Etymology of English Derivative, and it was never returned!
McCabe recently came across the book while cleaning out her house in Ohio, and sent it back with a check for $250 to cover any late fines. According to the article,
In a note sent with the book, she included the check to pay any fines. But she wasn't sure how she wound up with the book. "I don't know if it was something the library was getting rid of, or my Latin teacher had given me, or if I just kept it," she said.
BoardBuzz found this story a good laugh and a great reminder to return our library books... before more than six decades pass us by!
