Updated: Controvesy surrounds alleged American al Qaeda arrest

8 March 2010 UPDATED: Conflicting news reports suggest controversy surrounding the identity of “an American al Qaeda operative” captured in Pakistan, originally believed to be Adam GADAHN. American intelligence sources, initially confirming the identity of the individual captured, are now quickly retracting their confirmations. To be sure, this has happened in the past, but usually amid the fog of battle and when identification had to be made through DNA matching on a “High Value Target (HVT).” This would not be necessary in the case of GADAHN, and the fact that retractions are the flavor of the day indicate something is quite amiss between and within U.S. Intelligence agencies and the Pakistani ISI, a relationship built on mutual distrust...continue to full post
