Texas Execution

Texas carried out its 16th execution of 2009, tonight in Huntsville.  It was the state's 439th execution since 1982.  Texas has far and away the most active death chamber in America, accounting for more than 37% of the nation's post-Furman executions and more than half of all executions in 2009. Tonight's execution was the 200th under the administration of Governor Rick Perry, who has served in the office longer than any other Texas governor.  Perry became governor on December 21, 2000, succeeding George W.
