Class Action
: ClassLawBlog.comClass Claims Jewelry TV Sells Altered Gems
By ssharif
According to the Court House News Reporter, a class action complaint alleges that Jewelry Television is selling gemstones it falsely advertises as green or red andesine-labradorite, in violation of Federal Trade Commission guidelines for the jewelry and precious metals industry. Under the FTC guidelines, it is deceptive to fail to disclose that a gemstone has been treated, if the treatment has a significant effect on the stone?s value. The complaint alleges that Jewelry TV sells the gemstones as ?a highly coveted, extremely rare, all natural expensive gem that looks like Oregon sunstone,? when allegedly the stones are in actuality ?low-cost yellow or colorless labradorite that have been given a chemical ?facelift? to make them appear like the rare Oregon sunstone.?
