: Arizona Bankruptcy Attorney BlogPlease Don't Beat Yourself Up! It Doesn't Help You, and It Leaves Bruises on Your Knuckles.
By Joseph McDaniel, Esq.
ADVERTISEMENTS
Normally, it's the ladies who sob. And weep. And cry. And that's fine.Turns out big boys cry, too.
Crying is sometimes a pretty good emotional release, and it's fine by me. Hence, the tissue on the corner of my desk, facing the clients.
But sobbing on the theory that you are a bad businessman who should have seen this depression coming and made the correct zigs and zags so your business would continue to blossom...that's too much.
This time, it's really not your fault!
If you want to beat yourself up because you spent too much time in conversations with your buddy Jim, go ahead. I like Jim Beam as well as the next guy, but you talk with him too long into the evening, and you'll be late for work the next day. And you'll get fired, and that's a good reason to beat yourself up, so you won't do it again!
Beat yourself up for getting in a fight with a cop....oh, never mind. You won't need to, because cops are pretty tough guys, and picking a fight with one is a self-limiting exercise, as it should be.
You can beat yourself up for not making it to scheduled visitation, so your kids didn't get to spend time with you; that's just fine by me.
But don't beat yourself up because you can't read the future like a medium....that's just too hard on yourself.
Be a little more gentle with you on that one, okay?
The average self-made American Millionaire goes broke, on average, about four times before he gets to keep the dough.
It's hard to get rich by working, or building a business. You heard it here first!
So if your business fell off the cliff when you were only working half-days (you know, twelve hours), you need to back off a little and smell the coffee.
Because after we drive you through the car wash at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Arizona, you'll be mostly free of debt, and you can start another business, and it'll do far better than that crummy old business!
And by the way, I've watched a lot of guys go out and get rich again after they lost it all, and that makes me downright happy!
