This editorial critically reflects on the German Constitutional Court's 2009 ruling on the constitutionality of the Lisbon Treaty. It argues that the German Court criticizes the democratic credentials of the European Parliament partly for the wrong reasons; and that the Court's insistence on a stronger involvement of the national legislature in the EU contains an implicit accusation that the existing level of oversight from that legislature is inadequate.
