: ConglomerateThe Hedge Funds Making Money
By Gordon Smith, Christine, Hurt, Vic Fleischer, Fred Tung, Lisa Fairfax, David Zaring
The inauguration beckons for your humble blogger, but I just wrote wondering, who, other than John Paulson, are among the 33% of hedge funds making money in this market, and one of our helpful readers chimed in with a list (it is a little proprietary, so I won't put it up here). Other than two Paulson funds, the top twenty money makers, with returns ranging from 98% to 25% to the good, include plenty of names I don't know, and do not include lots of names I do know, like Rennaisance, Citadel, Greenlight, etc.
One thing to note - it looks like four of the winner funds were global macro, and two offshore - this during a period in which the globe is, if anything, doing worse than the US. But, of course, global macro sort of means "we trade in whatever we like," so it is hard to know precisely what aspect of the globe these winners were finding profits in -or profitably shorting.
