Texas Execution

Texas is scheduled to execute Michael Anthony Hall tonight in Huntsville.  It would beTexas' first execution of 2011.  It would be the state's 465th execution since 1983; the 226th execution under the administration of Governor Rick Perry. "Execution of killer in '98 case set for tonight," is Martha Deller's report in today's Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Starting at Hall's trial before state District Judge Sharen Wilson in 2000, his lawyers have said he is mentally retarded. Under Texas law, mental retardation was not a bar to execution, but jurors could consider it as reason not to assess the death penalty.
