United: The WORST Airline in the World

By Larry Bodine

ADVERTISEMENTS

United Airlines stranded me in New York in the middle of winter with no place to stay. I am 2,500 miles away from my home. I asked the airline to put me in a hotel and they refused.

United sucks, bad customer service

y flight home yesterday, Jan.31, a fullbefore the flight. I learned about it when a robot called my cell phone. United re-booked me on a horrendous 3-leg trip for tomorrow, Feb 2. When I went to LaGuardia airport and asked supervisor Randy Reed for a room, he refused. I asserted that because they broke their contract to fly me home to my own bed, they had to put me up for the night at their expense.

Mr. Reed refused repeatedly. When I expressed my concern, one of his sub-managers -- a balding, gray-haired guy with black glasses, about 5 foot 10 -- threatened to punch me out -- a physical assault. He was ready to add injury to insult to a paying customer.

The man came around the counter and stood two inches from my face and threatened to punch me. Mr. Reed had to physically restrain his United employee from assaulting a passenger. Six military personnel and two uniformed police officers arrived shortly.

The ticket agent brushed me off with an 800 number and told me to book a hotel room at my own expense. The operator found a hotel with windows overlooking the roaring I-678 Whitestone Expressway for $160 a night. How lucky can you get?

Tomorrow, I must to take a flight on US Airways from New York to DC, then a Continental flight from DC to Houston, and then a United flight from Houston to Tucson. This is a flight from hell.  When United wants to totally screw up your work life, they are very good at it.
