Supreme Court Lifts Stays in Two Texas Cases

"Justices lift stay in Fort Worth slaying, with new execution date to be set soon," is the report in today's Fort Worth Star-Telegram.  It's by Tim Madigan. Within the next several days, a Fort Worth judge is expected to set a new execution date for Cleve Foster, who was set to be put to death last week before the U.S. Supreme Court granted a last-minute stay.Supreme Court justices lifted the stay Tuesday, denying Foster's claims that he lacked legal representation during part of the appellate process. The justices did not comment. And: Also Tuesday, the high court denied an appeal in a Dallas death penalty case.In October, Justice Antonin Scalia granted a reprieve to Gayland Bradford, who received a death sentence for the fatal shooting of a Dallas grocery store security guard more than two decades ago...continue to full post
