Texas Execution

Texas is set to carry out its first execution of 2011, tonight in Huntsville.  It would be the state's 465th execution since 1982; the 226th execution under the administration of Governor Rick Perry.  Texas has far and away the most active death chamber in the nation, accounting for more than 36% of all the nation's post-Furman executions.  "Ex-Army recruiter facing execution in Texas," is the title of Michael Graczyk's AP report, via the Houston Chronicle. Since 1977, there have been 1,235 executions in the nation.  Last week, Oklahoma carried out the first execution in the nation this year, and is set to carry out another execution tonight, as well.  The Oklahoman reports, "Oklahoma inmate set for execution in 1994 murder...continue to full post
