: Food Safety NewsLetter From The Editor: Happy New Year!
By Dan Flynn and Suzanna Schreck
Last week I told you why the British Boxing Day is the most un-American of holidays. This week I would like to recognize New Year's, eve and day, as my favorites.
When reaching this point on the calendar, think of what is behind us. The whole scripted period from Halloween through Christmas is history. New Year's, on the other hand, is a do-your-own-thing holiday.
The New Year is also about a clean slate and new energy to accomplish those goals that eluded us last year. New Year's Day even makes me feel a little giddy with excitement about the prospects for a fresh start.
At Food Safety News, our plan is to continue to make adjustments as we go along, and to continue to let you know what those adjustments are as we go.
One of our goals in 2011 is to reach out to the state and local health departments---the folks on the front lines for food safety inspections and surveillance--to make sure we are telling their stories and serving as their forum.
As part of our outreach effort, you'll also see Food Safety News at more conferences and events in 2011. If our paths cross, please be sure to stop in and see us.
Our readership continues to grow nicely. We know there are many in the food safety community who have something to say, and we know our readers would benefit if you would contribute an article or opinion piece to our daily editions.
We are here for you with thousands of readers.
We could not be more enthusiastic about 2011, and what we can accomplish together. As the year continues, we hope you will "watch this space" for future developments.
And as Benjamin Franklin said: "Be always at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let each New Year find you a better man." __________
Editor's note: Publisher Bill Marler is on vacation.
