CCA Stays Harris County Hearing

"Hearing on Texas death penalty stopped by court," is Juan Lozano's latest AP report via the Austin American-Statesman. Texas' highest criminal court has stopped an unusual court hearing on the constitutionality of the death penalty in Texas. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals on Tuesday granted a request by the Harris County District Attorney's Office to stop the hearing. Earlier, Brian Rogers posted, "DA files emergency appeal to end death penalty hearing," at the Houston Chronicle. The Houston court hearing testimony about the constitutionality of the procedures surrounding the death penalty in Texas will continue to hear evidence despite an emergency appeal from the Harris County District Attorney's office late Monday to the state's highest court to halt the proceedings...continue to full post
