FBI Assails Washington Post Coverage of Its New York City Terror Unit

By David Badertscher, PLL

Source: Crime and Justice News, March 27, 2008.

"The FBI has taken issue with the Washington Post's description of its relationship with the New York Police Department in the war on terror. Assistant FBI director John Miller wrote the newspaper that its March 22 front-page story "In New York, a Turf War in the Battle Against Terrorism," which was cited in Crime & Justice News, 'may have left readers with a seriously flawed impression of the FBI-New York Police Department Joint Terrorism Task Force, which goes back 28 years.' "

"The story reported on conflicts between the FBI and the New York police. Miller complained that 'only at the end of the story did the reader learn that nearly all the issues were resolved -- 2 1/2 years ago.' He asserted that on terrorism issues, New York detectives 'have virtually the same access to information and authorities as any FBI employee.' "
