: Arizona Bankruptcy Attorney BlogVeterans Catch a Break on Veterans Day, Although It Should Be Every Day; Veterans Should Never Have to File Bankruptcy
By Joseph McDaniel, Esq.
They're called the U.S. Military.
They're honored on Veterans Day, which is good, and they are inadequately honored on other days, which is bad.
They're also underpaid, which is downright criminal. Food stamps are needed by some military families to keep body and soul together; that's something that needs to change, and fast. Some military have to file bankruptcy cases even though they're "fully employed", and I've never talked to one who had to file because of any fault of his or her own. They just don't get paid enough to keep up with inflation and the cost of living.
Congress has a lot to apologize for, and paying our military so little is close to the top of the list. Next time you see a politician, make him (or her) suffer on that topic, and don't stop anytime soon.
There's a nice list of freebies for veterans on a site called couponsherpa.
Thank you, Coupon Sherpa! That was a good thing to do!
And as soon as I get a Round Tuit, I'm going to thank some of the businesses that have chosen to honor our veterans and active military, and I'll make sure to give them my business, in preference to businesses that do not.
And thank you, President Eisenhower, for changing Armistice Day to Veterans Day, and thank you all for honoring veterans during the upcoming holiday.
This is part of the original Veterans Day Proclamation, by President Dwight D. Eisenhower:
"In order to insure proper and widespread observance of this anniversary, all veterans, all veterans' organizations, and the entire citizenry will wish to join hands in the common purpose. Toward this end, I am designating the Administrator of Veterans' Affairs as Chairman of a Veterans Day National Committee, which shall include such other persons as the Chairman may select, and which will coordinate at the national level necessary planning for the observance. I am also requesting the heads of all departments and agencies of the Executive branch of the Government to assist the National Committee in every way possible."
