New: Jackpot Justice 5-Minute Film Series

?Shows the costs of lawsuit abuse to families and businesses?

San Francisco? The Pacific Research Institute (PRI), a free-market think tank based in California, released a three-part series of short documentary films exploring lawsuit abuse in America's civil-justice system. Jackpot Justice consists of three, five-minute films based on the policy research of Lawrence J.McQuillan, Ph.D., director of Business and Economic Studies at PRI. To view the series, visit www.pacificresearch.org.
Lawyers Gone Wild
The first film in the Jackpot Justice series titled "Lawyers Gone Wild" takes a humorous look at the absurd warning labels on everyday products, and examines how we all pay more for goods and services as a result of our runaway lawsuit industry.
Judicial Hellholes
The second film titled "Judicial Hellholes" takes audiences on a tour of American cities notorious for litigation tourism, a strategy personal injury lawyers use to hold trials in cities and towns where judges and juries are more likely to rule in their favor.
More Lawyers , Fewer Doctors
The third film titled "More Lawyers, Fewer Doctors" takes a sobering look at how excessive medical-liability lawsuits have resulted in the closure of medical facilities and an exodus of doctors, leaving people in many communities without access to care.
?There are myriad negative consequences of jackpot justice,? said Dr. McQuillan. ?Excessive tort costs are about $588 billion a year. These high costs impose a severe burden on Americans from increased prices to decreased access to medical care to less-competitive U.S. companies. Meritless lawsuits clog courthouses, cost jobs, and prevent true victims from receiving fair compensation in a timely manner.?
The video series was directed by Nick Tucker and produced by the Pacific Research Institute, Lur Films, and Ozymandias Media with funding provided by the Arthur N. Rupe Foundation.
