: Stark County Law Library BlawgHelp Desk - Windows 7 Tips
Tips written by Tom Mighell: "Are any of you reading this on computers running Windows 7? As more and more people start to use the latest operating system from Windows, I thought I'd give a few tips to help you make better use of it. Here are just a few:
- Have a lot of windows cluttering your screen, and want to focus on just one? Try the "Aero Shake." Instead of minimizing every window, just click and hold the title bar of the window you want to leave open, and give it a quick shake. Your screen will be cleared of all windows except that one.
- When you have a lot of windows open at once, it can be hard to navigate among them all. Windows 7 has a cool feature that allows you to combine icons to keep the taskbar neat and organized. Just right-click the Start button, then go to Properties->Taskbar, and under Taskbar Buttons choose "Always Combine, Hide Labels" or "Combine when taskbar is full." If you want to see *everything* with labels, choose Never combine.
- Windows 7 comes with a handy troubleshooting aide called the Problem Steps Recorder. If you're having a problem with your computer and you want to recreate the problem so someone else can see it, just type psr into the Instant Search box, and the Recorder will launch. It will document what shows up on your screen as you recreate the problem, and you can even add comments. Then just package the footage into a zip file so you can mail to your go-to tech expert."
