Monkeying Around in Michigan

With the Democratic primary essentially dead in the Wolverine State, Daily Kos is encouraging Michigan liberals to cast their vote for Romney in the state's January 15th open primary.

Targeting moderate opposition candidates can indeed be an effective tactic against a looming mainstreamer threat by killing them off before they can reach independent voters. Many credited Gray Davis' anonymous attack ads against moderate Richard Riordan during the 2002 California Republican Gubernatorial Primary as handing the nomination to conservative longshot Bill Simon.

Given that the race between Romney and McCain is a dead-heat at this point, might this chicanery pay off? Equally important, it would seem that the Dems perceive a credible threat in the Arizona Senator.
