: Eastern District of Texas Federal Court PracticeLitigation Section of the State Bar of Texas - Facebook page
By Michael C. Smith
As readers know, the State Bar of Texas' Litigation Section puts out a lot of information that is of interest (and use) to lawyers who practice in the field of litigation in Texas. This week the executive committee of the Section's governing council approved the Section's new Facebook page which has been developed by Facebook page czar Susan Nelson of Waco. I highly recommend it to readers - please "like" it if you're so inclined. (Actually please "like" it whether you are or not - it will greatly mystify Susan if she gets an avalanche of "likes" this afternoon).
The page has posts on Section activities and comments, but this week's highlight (for me at least) is a post by another Waco lawyer Alan Nelson (who Susan sometimes claims) "The Wrath of Khan and Footnote 21" in the Arbitrary and Capricious column on the Section's website. The article discusses the Texas Supreme Court's recent opinion in Robinson v. Crown Cork & Seal, and more specifically the concurrence by Justice Willett, who is joined by Justice Lehrmann, and even more specifically footnote 21, in which Justice Willett quotes Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Alan goes on to state:
At this point, I must say I'm surprised the Supremes didn't request Michael C. Smith of Siebman, Reynolds, Burg, Phillips & Smith, LLP to supply an amicus curiae brief on the application of Star Trek, or for that matter, any sci-fi show and its application to Texas law. Any law/Star Trek nerd worth his or her quantum salt knows that Smith is the ultimate authority on this matter.
I don't know where he got that idea. I'll ask my three boys and see if they do.
