Toyota Announces Yet Another Safety Defect Recall

By Michael Monheit

ADVERTISEMENTS

October 20, 2010 (Philadelphia, PA) – Toyota Motor Sales announced a voluntary Safety Recall involving approximately 740,000 – 2005 through 2006 Avalon, 2004 through 2006 Highlander (non Hybrid) and Lexus RX330, and 2006 Lexus GS300, IS250, and IS350 vehicles sold in the United States.

This latest recall will address the possibility that brake fluid container is defective and can slowly leak from the brake master cylinder.

If the brake warning lamp has illuminated and the vehicle continues to be operated without refilling the master cylinder brake fluid reservoir, the driver will begin to notice a spongy or soft brake pedal feel and braking performance may gradually decline. This hazard may lead to accidents.

Larry E. Coben, a shareholder at Anapol Schwartz has been advised that owners of the involved vehicles will be notified by first class mail beginning in early November 2010. Toyota and Lexus dealers will replace the brake master cylinder cup with a newly designed one at no charge to the vehicle owners.

Mr. Coben explained today, in an interview with Consumer Reporter Tracy Davidson of NBC10 that certainly if this component were to fail during highway operation, there is a serious risk of injuries or death.

Detailed information and answers to questions are available by contacting Mr. Coben at lcoben@anapolschwartz.com

And, by the way, did you know that more than 25% of the owners of cars and trucks that are the subject of recalls either don't receive notice or fail to have their vehicles fixed when a notice comes in the mail? Please be alert and don't wait to call your dealer and arrange to drop off your vehicle for the safety repair. Also, demand a replacement vehicle for the day or time that your vehicle is tied up at the dealership—it's the least Toyota should do!
