: The GavelIA Campaign Finance Rules Intact, for Now
By Peter Hardin
Just weeks before Election Day, Federal District Judge Robert Pratt of Iowa is refusing a request by Iowa Right to Life for a preliminary injunction against the state’s new campaign finance rules.
Iowa Right to Life “has asked this court to … radically change Iowa’s campaign finance rules midstream during an election,” Judge Pratt wrote, according to a Des Moines Register article. He said the group failed to show that its challenge would likely prevail, or the group would be harmed irreparably if it did not win an injunction.
Iowa’s new law mandates that corporations must disclose their political spending to state regulators, and they must identify themselves in the political advertising.
You can read about the lawsuit brought by Iowa Right to Life and its lead lawyer, James Bopp of Indiana, in Gavel Grab.
