ADVERTISEMENTS

  • A lawyer who handled as many as 65 cases per year for a cruise ship line was terminated and about one year later started filing cases against the former client.  According to this ALM story, the cruise lines motions to DQ have so far been denied.
  • The ABA clarifies how accessible its ethics opinions are.
  • Here's the homily that was given at the Red Mass, attended by Vice President Biden and several member of the US Supreme Court.  Not surprisingly, the sermon featured natural law theories of justice.
  • Today, at noon EDT at Hofstra, Professor Katherine Kruse will deliver the Lichtenstein Distinguished Professorship of Legal Ethics Lecture, on Engaged Client-Centered Representation and the Moral Foundation of Legal Representation.
  • LawyersUSA Online says that Pennsylvania has issued an ethics opinion about lawyers and virtual offices.  You may recall that New Jersey issued an opinion on that topic, but that poorly reasoned opinion appeared to be motivated mostly at reducing competition from New York and Philadelphia lawyers.
  • The Star (Malaysia) runs an op--ed arguing that an accused is entitled to be defended by the lawyer of his choice, irrespective of pubic perception of his guilt or innocence.  (When I read articles like that, and read the recent study about global corruption of the legal profession, I'm thankful for how often our system, with its admitted flaws, does deliver basic justice.)
  • Overlawyered: Lawyer convicted for sock puppetry.
