: Food Poison Blog17 Oklahoma Salmonella Paratyphi B variant Java Cases Linked to Cases in Nebraska and Iowa
By Bill Marler
The number of children with Salmonella Java illnesses in Mustang Public Schools has grown. As of last Thursday afternoon officials from the Oklahoma State Health Department told parents there were only 10 students exposed to the bacteria at four different elementary schools, but on Monday that number rose to 14. All of the children became ill between September 2 and 11.
The Health Department is also investigating at least three other illnesses in Oklahoma. There are two confirmed adult cases in Oklahoma County, including one person hospitalized. Carter County also has a young adult with a confirmed case of antibiotic-resistant Salmonella Paratyphi B variant Java.
There are also illnesses in Iowa and Nebraska that may be linked to the 17 Oklahoma cases.
