GOP Wants to Repeal Health Care Reform Law Americans Support

By Karina

ADVERTISEMENTS

Congressional Republicans are pledging to take away guaranteed protections for millions of patients?putting insurance companies back in charge of health care decisions and adding to the deficit.

A recent Kaiser Family Foundation poll reports that by a 9-point margin, more Americans hold favorable opinion of the Affordable Care Act. Another poll, this one by the Associated Press, reveals that?by a 2-to-1 margin?Americans think the new law ?should have done more? as opposed to those who think ?the government should stay out of health care.?

From the Kaiser Family Foundation poll:

By a 9-point margin, more Americans hold a favorable view of the new health insurance law (49 percent to 40 percent)

Only 26 percent of Americans believe the law should be repealed

Nearly six in ten Americans say the uninsured and those with pre?existing health conditions will be better off under the new law

By a 47-point margin, more Americans place Democrats as the party that has done more to expand health care coverage (64 percent to 17 percent)

By a 30-point margin, Democrats are also seen as the party who has done more to make health care and health insurance more affordable (53 percent to 23 percent)

From the Associated Press poll:

By a 2-to-1 margin, a majority of Americans think the law should have done more versus those who think the government should stay out of health care

54 percent of those who think the law should do more support a requirement for health insurance companies to provide coverage to people with pre-existing medical conditions. The law requires insurers to cover children regardless of pre-existing medical conditions this year, and that protection is extended to people of all ages in 2014.
