NEGOTIATIONS
IAM & USW, Harley-Davidson: After workers in Wisconsin ratified tough seven-year contracts, Harley-Davidson last week agreed to keep its two Wisconsin plants open and to call off its search for new locations. The new contracts will go into effect in 2012.

UNITEHERE!, Hilton Hawaiian Village: Some 1,400 hotel workers at the Hilton Hawaiian Village voted to authorize a strike, after working without a contract since June. UNITEHERE! Local 5 calls out the hotel?s owner, private equity firm Blackstone Group, for demanding cuts despite evidence that the hotel?s business is improving.

CNA/NNU, Ventura County Medical Center: Nurses in Ventura County, Calif., voted overwhelmingly to reject the county’s contract offer, which would freeze wages and increase pension contributions. The 500 members of the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United (CNA/NNU) are planning an informational picket at Ventura County Medical Center today, while managers are preparing to ask the county board of supervisors to impose the contract.

SETTLEMENTS
IAM, Cessna Aircraft: Machinists at Cessna Aircraft in Wichita, Kan., accepted a seven-year contract by default when they rejected the deal but failed to authorize a strike by the required two-thirds majority. While the contract covering 2,500 workers freezes wages for the first four years and increases health care costs for many, IAM spokesman Bob Wood said, “We do understand these are tough times. People are scared for their jobs.”
