McCain Opens Bigger Lead on Obama

Where's the slippage for Obama, who last month led McCain? Independents.

The poll showed Obama continues to have strong support from the African-American community but that he is experiencing some slippage among moderates and independents.

Among independents, McCain led for the first time in the poll, 46 percent to 36 percent over Obama.

He was behind McCain by 21 percent among white voters.

21 points behind McCain amongst whites? Wow. You can't win a general with that.

It would be truly ironic if after Bill and Hillary failed to define Obama as the "black candidate," Obama defined *himself* that way just in time to lose to McCain.
