Students and Google / Wikipedia

By admin

ADVERTISEMENTS

Three links about research at Ars Technica in this area that I found useful to talk about the importance of information literacy training, credulity and research skills:

Students trust high Google search rankings too much

I loved the visual the best:

Most students use Wikipedia, avoid telling profs about it

Study: Students more wary of Wikipedia, online resources than thought

I found these three interesting. We can always find students who lack skills, but we need to see that as an opportunity to uplift them rather than to take them as an indicator of an entire cohort’s skills.

Indeed, in the web scale universe, I think that it’s more likely that librarians see the challenged researchers more often. The rest could be getting along just fine..
