SSP 2009 IRS Return 990-EZ Confirms Factoring Intermediary is Director of Settlement Planners Society

By John Darer

ADVERTISEMENTS

First we had the verbal information from 4 independent sources.

Then we obtained a copy of an broadcasted email from an insider which stated that the reins of Treasurer were bing turned over to the factoring intermediary.

Today we have a copy of the organization's Form 990-EZ : Short Form Return for Organization Exempt From Income Tax. The latter, which was obtained today in response to this author's request under mandatory public disclosure rules** for non profit organizations represents the indisputable proof that the Society of Settlement Planners has Rhonda Bentzen,  a factoring company intermediary from Franklin, TN, on its Board of Directors.

The SSP appears to exclude all other factoring entities and representatives

Rhonda Bentzen is the same factoring company intermediary who offered and paid a "share of the spoils" to a significant number of structured settlement brokers and settlement planners both inside and outside the SSP, in exchange for business referrals. This is the same individual who attempted to sabotage a structured settlement transparency intiative in 2007-2008 and 2009 and tried to justify those payments as a means to get sellers a better deal. In May 2010 we reported how Bentzen was clobbered on a competitive deal by 50% having offered $84,000 to a seller compared to the winning bid of $124,000. Our sources tell us the deal was referrred to Bentzen by a structured settlement broker.

It is indisputable that such payments, which Bentzen represented less than 3 years ago involved 90% of her clientele (Download Bentzen Funding Solutions 90 pct blog post 12-12-2007) took money out of the mouths of desperate tort victims seeking liquidity. Those poor bastards ultimately had to sell more of their payments than needed to accomodate Bentzen's payoffs.
