Life Technologies as an immediate need for an Engineering Patent Agent for our Carlsbad, CA location.

This important role on the Life Technologies IP team will help ensure the return on Life Technologies? substantial R&D investment in genetic systems. This will involve sensing and protecting innovation through world-class patent prosecution. As a strategic partner to the business, this role also will assist with diligence to guide and enable technology licensing and acquisition; clearance of new genetic systems products for commercialization; and identification and execution of winning judicial and administrative approaches to achieve patent procurement or patent defense objectives.

The role provides substantial opportunity for skills acquisition and development.

The successful candidate will have a strong engineering background. Knowledge and experience in optics, imaging, image/signal processing, microfluidics, and instrumentation design/control is highly desirable. A working familiarity with molecular biology principles will be an asset.

Exceptional written and interpersonal communication skills, a collaborative instinct, and can-do attitude are a must.

Education: Degree in Engineering (bio, biomedical, mechanical, chemical, or other). An advanced degree can be helpful but is not required.

Experience: The individual must be registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and have 2+ years (Patent Agent) or 4+ years (Senior Patent Agent) experience.
