: Eye on the BailoutHelp ProPublica Find the Homeowner Who?s Been in Loan-Mod Limbo the Longest
By ProPublica
We at ProPublica have been reporting for nearly a year on the troubles of the government's mortgage modification program. It's been difficult for people to get into a trial modification, and it's been difficult for people, once in a trial mod, to make the changes permanent. The trial period is supposed to last for three months, but often drags on much longer, leaving homeowners in limbo.
To help shine some light on the issue, we're trying to find the homeowner who has spent the longest time in a trial period. Have you or do you know someone who has made trial payments for months on end? Eight months? Nine?
If that's you, please write paul.kiel@propublica.org and put "World's Longest Trial" in the subject line.
