How Blogging Can Make You A Better Human Being

ADVERTISEMENTS

Being awesome rocks! This post shows you how blogging can benefit you in ways far beyond just making more sales and building a successful business. Blogging is a great catalyst for developing your inner-awesomeness.

What does it mean to be a good human being? I’d argue it means contributing to the world in a positive way and helping others. Can we agree on this? If so, then it stands to reason that helping more not only makes the world better…it makes you better as well. It is mutually beneficial. To me, that’s real success. How do you feel about that?

Blogging is the Art of Becoming a Better Person

It’s interesting how often the themes of personal development and blog marketing are so often intertwined, don’t you think? It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise when you think about it. Blogging forces you to capture your best ideas on a regular basis, because capturing your best ideas is a prerequisite to building a successful blog. You have to have something of value to share with your audience. Why else would anyone become a regular reader? You need to share content that is actually helpful to your tribe. Text, video, photos, drawings on the back of business cards…whatever your chosen medium, you can help people with your blog.

It’s a high calling when you think about it. It is a great responsibility as well, and those of us who take that responsibility seriously will naturally work hard to improve ourselves and our ability to share the best we have to offer. This pursuit makes us better, and it makes the value we extend to our readers greater as well.

The Benefits of Being Awesome

Yes, awesome content can build a strong, profitable following, but the work required to consistently put out awesome content also makes you a better human being. Can you build an audience sharing nothing but garbage? Of course, in some cases. You can do whatever you like with your time. But importantly, the title of this post is “How Blogging Can Make You A Better Human Being”, not “How Blogging WILL Make You A Better Human Being”. As is the case with all things, you get out what you put in.

Likewise, your audience will also get out what you put in. If you think about it this way, your blog is not just a fantastic marketing tool, it is a character treadmill. My character can certainly benefit from a daily workout, how about you?

Becoming Better

After you blog for a little while, you’ll likely start thinking in terms of contribution more and more…and you’ll think about marketing less and less. Here’s what I mean by this: You’ll find yourself jumping out of the shower to write down an idea, perhaps the best idea you’ll have all day. You’ll pull over to the side of the road to jot down an idea (of course we never text while driving, correct?), because blogging will have become integrated into your work flow. You’ll develop the habits of capturing and sharing the best you have to offer, because at it’s core that’s what good blogging is about. After a little while, if you pay attention, you’ll learn that this is what makes a successful business blog…not SEO, backlinks or pretty graphics. When you address the former, the ladder happens automatically. Conversely, you can have the best SEO in the world, but if your content blows, you’ve got nothing.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this and see how you feel about it. Do you see your blog as a means of contribution or purely a marketing tool? Do you disagree that blogging can have this profound an effect on your personal life as well as your business?
