McDonald's Recalls 12,000,000 Cadmium-Tainted Shrek Glasses

By Robert Kraft

ADVERTISEMENTS
The Associated Press is one of many news outlets reporting on the recall by McDonald's of 12,000,000 "Shrek" drinking glasses because they may be contaminated with cadmium. The cadmium is in the paint on the outside of the glasses, which of course are intended for use by kids. If you received one of these glasses you should not use it again. Cadmium is a known carcinogen that research shows also can cause bone softening and severe kidney problems. McDonald's will soon announce its policy regarding refunds. The glasses were sold for about $2.00 each.

Cadmium has caused recalls recently of cheap jewelry made in China. The scary thing about this McDonald's recall is that the drinking glasses were manufactured in the United States. This could be a larger problem than previously suspected.
