By Andis Kaulins

ADVERTISEMENTS
At Patent Baristas -- in nicely reformatted in larger type -- see the June 2, 2010 speech given at the Center for American Progress by Under Secretary of Commerce and USPTO Director David Kappos on the The Innovation Economy and Unleashing Intellectual Property to Fuel Growth and Create Jobs

-or -

go to the -- typically -- less readable original at the United State Patent Office here in unnecessarily small print.

The speech by Kappos shows that the USPTO is trying to improve as a monolithic government organization that has fallen devastatingly behind the times, but they still have a long way to go to become anywhere near up-to-date.

To start out, dear USPTO, if you publish materials for people to actually READ, then please put those materials in a format which are actually readable. Type size is one issue. A long speech like Kappos' should also be subdivided into subheadings to show the thought organization rather than presenting the whole thing like a heavy brick with no internal organization. Thank you.
