: Legal Pad | LAFor BitTorrent users, the Hunt may be over
By Richard Binder
Not two weeks after the RIAA's victory over Limewire, another file-sharing web site may be inching toward the chopping block.
Last Thursday U.S. District Court Judge Stephen Wilson issued a permanent injunction against Isohunt and its owner Gary Fung from providing access to any copyrighted material. Isohunt is one of the largest BitTorrent search engines on the Internet and is based in Richmond, British Columbia.
A suit was brought several years ago by the Motion Picture Association of America, and Judge Wilson said the plaintiffs had "demonstrated that they have suffered irreparable harm, and would suffer further irreparable harm from Defendants? continued infringement." In March of this year Judge Wilson had ordered the site to take down all links to copyright-infringing material.
Fung could face jail time for not complying with the injunction.
