: ConglomerateToo Big To Save? by Robert Pozen
By Gordon Smith, Christine, Hurt, Vic Fleischer, Fred Tung, Lisa Fairfax, David Zaring
The financial crisis is aging "what happened during the financial crisis" books quickly, but I was still glad to finally get to Robert Pozen's Too Big To Save? What's good about it are the parts (and there are quite a few) that are use the crisis as a way to educate people about how the financial system works; this is one of the few crisis books that I could see helping out in a corp fin class. And the data analysis hits that business school sweet spot where easily understood meets knowledgeably obtained. What is strange about it is that Pozen, who is probably a Republican, comes across as a real world technocrat, confident that if his hundred odd proposals are adopted, almost all of which could be considered tweaks to the regulatory state, things will be better the next time. Just tell that to Ken Rogoff and Carmen Reinhardt. Here's Alex Tabarok on a particularly great part of the Pozen book (he's basically quoting him).
