Effective Time Management Means Less Stress

By Ben Glass

ADVERTISEMENTS

We all know that stress is not good for our health. Stress has been associated with many types of medical problems, not to mention the emotional strain it puts on just about every aspect of our lives.

According to the Mayo Clinic, "effective time management is a primary means to a less stressful life." This statement is so true. How often do you feel stressed because you can't seem to get everything done each day? You might feel overwhelmed by the projects that require your attention or by the fact that your day seems to fly by. There are some things you can do to more efficiently manage your time. These are tips that I have mentioned in previous blog posts, but they are worth stating again:

Pre-plan your day: Traditional to-do lists aren't the best tools for time management. I use the "block-and-clock" approach when planning out my day. For example, I block off a certain amount of time for each project. When the time is up, I put it away and move on to the next project.

Protect your time: You do not have to make yourself available to everyone at all hours of the day. If clients need to talk with you, I would suggest that you schedule a phone call. Same concept applies to people who stop by your office. Make it a policy that these individuals make an appointment.

Focus on what is meaningful in your life: The reality is that there is only so much time available each day, which means that you can't say "yes" to every opportunity that comes your direction. You need to stay focused on what is meaningful to your spiritual, personal and business life.
