Getting Started with Social Media, or Improving Your Presence Online

ADVERTISEMENTS
I'm a big fan of Chris Brogan, who along with Julien Smith wrote Trust Agents, a book on using the web to build influence, improve your reputation, and earn trust. He continues that conversation over at his self-titled blog, Chris Brogan. One of my favorite recent posts is titled Social Media Projects You Could Start Today; it's basically a collection of some of his previous articles on getting started using social media. Probably my favorite of the articles is on creating a simple presence framework. It's a simple framework, really - developing a Home Base (your blog, website, wherever you want people to come), Outposts (places where you interact with people, with the hope that they might visit your Home Base to continue the conversation), and Passports (profiles you keep on various online sites, without a lot of participation). I'll leave it to Chris to describe the concepts in greater detail, but lawyers can absolutely adopt a version of this system in order to become a legal version of a trust agent online. Read it. Try it.
