: Glendale Personal Injury LawyerQualcomm Stadium To Install Guardrails After Employee Falls To His Death
By Greg Owen
The San Diego Chargers have been ordered to put guardrails on a dozen open-air boxes at Qualcomm Stadium to prevent a repeat of last year's accident in which an employee tumbled to his death.
The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health issued the order after investigating the death of Walter Daniels, 66, a game-day employee of the team. The agency gave the team 30 days to comply or appeal the order.
Daniels fell 20 feet before the Oct. 19 game with the Denver Broncos. He was delivering programs when he tripped and fell down the stairs at the press box and coaches area, and landed in the lower level seats. He died of his injuries the next day.
The stadium opened in 1967, before current standards for guardrails were imposed, according to the Cal/OSHA report. The agency has proposed a penalty of $375.
