: Religion ClauseSri Lankan Official Complains About South Park's Portrayal of Buddha
By Howard M. Friedman
ADVERTISEMENTS
Sri Lanka's Sunday Leader reports today on indignation in Sri Lanka over two recent episodes of the animated American television show South Park which depicted Lord Buddha snorting cocaine. The government's Minister of Religious Affairs said he would ban the shows, and even the entire series, from being televised in the country. However he would not say whether he would also ban the sale of South Park DVDs that are widely available. This stir follows objections by Muslims earlier this week over the depiction of the Prophet Muhammad on South Park. (See prior posting.) South Park episodes have portrayed other religious leaders in unflattering ways as well, including Jesus viewing Internet pornography.Full post as published by Religion Clause on April 24, 2010 (boomark / email).
