: Legal Pad | LADisabled woman's parents can seek visitation rights, says judge
By Richard Binder
In 2006, due to a series of medical mishaps at Cedars-Sinai Medical Hospital, Abbie Dorn was left unable to move or speak after giving birth to triplets. She and her husband Dan eventually divorced. Dan has refused to let the triplets visit their mother, who communicates mostly by blinking, on the basis that it would be detrimental to them at their ages. Court documents and testimony say that Abbie has not seen her children for 2 1/2 years.
Abbie's parents, Paul and Susan Cohen, are acting as her conservators. In a pretrial hearing, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Rudolph A. Diaz ruled that the Cohens have the legal right to fight on her behalf so that she can see her children.
A trial to decide custody, visitation, property and child support is set for May 13.
