A $200 million lawsuit has been filed against Sudan over the deaths of 17 sailors on the USS Cole during an al-Qaida attack in 2001. The lawsuit accuses the Sudan of giving support to those responsible for the attack. Thirty-three immediate survivors of the victims were awarded $8 million in compensatory damages in 2007, but those were limited to actual damages based on loss of income. This lawsuit is seeking punitive and emotional damages that were denied in 2007.
