: Legal Pad | LAWater District owns Vail Lake, says ruling
By Richard Binder
Superior Court Judge Lawrence Fry has officially ruled in favor of Rancho California Water District in a long-running legal battle over who owns Vail Lake.
According to a news release by Best Best & Krieger, who represented the district, Bill Johnson, who owns Vail Lake Rancho California, LLC, and operates a campground on property he owns surrounding the lake, first sent the district a notice of forfeiture in 1999 that alleged the district hadn?t complied with conditions associated with a 1979 agreement it signed with Kacor Realty, Inc., the predecessor to Johnson?s company. Thus, Johnson alleged, the rights to the lake reverted back to him.
Fry ruled for the district and ordered Rancho Water to continue to build a transmission line that will allow the storage of imported water in the lake.
