Cost of "12 Days of Christmas" Gifts Increases

The cost of the gifts described in the Christmas classic, The Twelve Days of Christmas, is $18,920 for 2006. That is an increase of 3.1% over last year, and is attributable primarily to rising labor costs, particularly for the Nine Ladies Dancing, 11 Pipers Piping, and 12 Drummers Drumming. However, rising labor costs were offset somewhat by declining prices for luxury goods, such as Five Gold Rings.

These figures were part of the 22nd annual PNC Christmas Price Index, a less than serious economic analysis by PNC Wealth Management. According to the survey, the true cost of Christmas in the song, a total of 364 items, is $75,122 this year. The PNC Christmas Price Index may be viewed at www.pncchristmaspriceindex.com.
