Say It Out Loud With Me: "My Work Computer Isn't Really Mine"

By Lynne DeVenny

ADVERTISEMENTS
Yes, I cringed when I saw the headline "Dirty old man out to pasture" followed by "a 73-year old 'sex addict' paralegal who is one of the longest-serving employees at [New York City's] Law Department is being forced out for ignoring repeated warnings not to open or send sexually explicit emails..."

Repeated. Warnings. For those of you new to the working world, most of the time you only get one warning not to send raunchy email from your work computer - and it's not uncommon to get no warning at all, just an empty copy paper box to put your personal items in and a security escort out the front door.

MyFOXNY reports:

Aban Cooper's 32-year career was cut short after a judge determined he sent and received 19 emails with nude images or lewd jokes in April 2009, printed racy material on an office printer three months later and received more suggestive emails in August and November even after being served with disciplinary charges.

Cooper has prudently decided to "retire" at the end of this month.
