Opposition to Liu delivered in writing from CA DAs

A battle is being waged for public opinion over President Obama's recent nominee to the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

In a letter to leaders of the Senate Judiciary Committee, 42 of California's 58 county district attorneys expressed their opposition to Goodwin Liu's nomination to the federal appeals court, saying that the UC Berkeley law professor's critique of decisions by Samuel Alito displays a general hostility to the death penalty.

The prosecutors fear that once on the bench, Liu would overturn nearly every death sentence and his views are "far out of the judicial mainstream."

Meanwhile, conservatives have branded Liu a liberal activist and criticized his support for affirmative action, same-sex marriage and the view that constitutional rights evolve over time.
