: New York City Personal Injury LawyerFaulty Balcony Railing Causes Man to Fall 24 Floors in Manhattan
By Paul Napoli
March 15, 2010
A man died from a 24-story fall from the balcony of a Manhattan apartment building on Sunday, reported NY1.com.
Officials at the New York City Department of Buildings say the death of Connor Donohue, 24, may be the fault of a dilapidated balcony railing. Donohue's body was found about 9 a.m. outside the building at 330 East 39th Street. The accident is under investigation, but it appears the balcony fencing and posts were loose, possibly damaged before Donohue's fall.
The Department of Building has ordered residents of the building to remain off the balconies pending results of engineering reports for every balcony.
According to the Department of Buildings website, the agency issued a violation to building owner Jennifer Towers Apartments for failure to maintain the balconies after receiving a report from the New York Police Department that a man leaning on the balcony rail fell when the rail gave way.
