And The Oscar Goes To.....

By "Daisy Duke"

ADVERTISEMENTS
So, like many people, American and otherwise (otherwise? really? sorry guys, it is Monday, and with that comes a complete lackofvocabulary...) I watched the Oscar's last night. Actually, after spending five entire, horrible hours of my life learning about being an ethical lawyer or, rather, learning the finer topics usually tested on the "how to be an ethical lawyer" mandatory exam I crawled home, ordered a take & bake pizza (Ahem! New favorite pizza combo! Whole wheat crust, sauce, cheese, fresh garlic and basil...divine!) told BISMOW to open a bottle of wine and join me on the couch for some Oscar-Awesomeness. He was very apprehensive but I promised him Penelope Cruz would be wearing something low-cut (she failed me...) and that Kerri Russell would show up at some point (thank goodness someone came through for me). So he sat. And we watched. And here are some thoughts:

KUDOS: Jennifer Garner, Katherine Heigl, Hilary Swank, Helen Mirren, Cameron Diaz, Kerri Russell and Anne Hathaway looked spectacular.

MISSING: Angelina & Brad, Keira (Really missy, you don't get to have a nomination the year before, star in the highly nominated but worst and most depressing and soul sucking movie of all time and then not come. Tacky.) and Reese...where were you?? I missed you! Come back!

FIRE YOUR STYLIST: Mrs. Daniel Day-Lewis. Your dress looked like a horrific combination of a bad gift (bows? on your shoulders?) and some horrific table decoration. And your hair sucked. Also, I think Daniel Day Lewis's tux was weird. So, yeah. The two of you need to surface for air and invest in some new duds.

SPEECH! SPEECH!: Tilda Swinton. I thought your dress and your hair were pretty bad, but then your acceptance speech was so funny I completely forgave you. Completely. Seriously, thanking George Clooney, not for his real-acting nonsense and all his work on the film you won for but instead thanking him for all his hard work as Batman? Priceless.

STEWART: TO HOST OR NOT TO HOST: I gave him a thumbs up. I enjoyed Ellen more (I'm sorry, her vaccuming bit was amazing) and Chris Rock (his political commentary was biting & wonderful and evenly spread across the board) but Jon Steward came and made me laugh. His bit about self-congratulation? Hilarious. When he let Marketa Irglova come and finish her speech after she got outed by the music I thought he showed some nice class. So, well don Jon.

BIGGEST BOOOOO: Political commentary. Blah blah blah. Blah blah blah. Can't we keep the politics out of something?? I mean commentary about presidents, past or future, in any capacity. If you want to further a cause, I'm all for it, the world is your stage....literally. But the Republican v. Democrat argument should be checked at the door.

And? BISMOW and I decided that we are going to watch (from first to last) every movie deemed Best Picture. First up, the winner from 1928, Wings. I'll let you know how it is. I'm the most excited for 1939- Gone With the Wind, 1970- Patton, 1985- Out of Africa, and, um, obviously 1997- Titanic. How about you?
